The wonderful world of wild orchids was for me and my friend Luciano Triolo (http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/3956) an amazing hobby, in many years we have found 45 species and many hybrids.
Orchis Conica
Height: 5-30 cm
Habitat: The requirements of this species seem to be similar to Orchis lactea.
Flowers: February-April
Height: 20cm
Plant with 2 spherical tubers;stem 25-30 tall with 2 basal scale leaves and 6-8 linear-lanceolate foliage leaves 10-18 cm long and 0.8-1.6 cm wide.
Habitat:Garrigue; up to about 100 m near the coast; on dry soils over various types of rock (but not limestone).
Flowers: April and June
Sardinia and Sicily.
Orchis Italica
Height: 20-50 cm
Plant with 2 ovoid ot ellispoid tubers; stem 20-do cm tall with 2-4 basal scale leaves, 5-10 foliage leaves in a rosette and 2-4 leaves sheathing the stem.
Habitat: Poor grassland, garrigue, open woodland up to 1300 m;on dry dump, base rich and often stony soils.

Joseph Candianicus Horridus

Note: Extremely rare wild species of beast that infest the hills surrounding the town of Messina (Sicily).
Someone that survived reported that it comes out especially during the spring time.
